sprung

I just sold 2 pieces of artwork to the Cancer Care Alliance treatment center, through the Seattle Art Museum Gallery. I was thrilled to be able to have my work owned by a business that is in the business of healing people. Both pieces are hanging in the Womens Center at the clinic. I have a possibilty of doing some more work for them (8 pieces!) and am just waiting to hear if the project is a go or not. They almost purchased this piece, Sprung, as well, but ultimately decided it wasn't quite the right fit for the space. I wanted to post it here, because I had forgotten all about it! It has been at the Gallery for a while and it had totally been erased from my not-so-good memory. I know my fine art work is so different from my illustration work, which is different from my card designs, which is different from my stamp designs. What can I say...I guess I'm a Jack of All Trades, master of none.

Tales and Legends 2

This is my 1st time to ever to post 2 illustrations in one week to the Illustration Friday challenge, but I had the time, loved the topic and was inspired to do Alice in Wonderland - falling down the rabbit hole. When Alice fell, she had just seen the white rabbit hurrying along looking at his pocket watch. Falling down the hole, she saw a jar of Orange Marmalade, picture frames and maps. I tried to capture all of these things in a "hip" style, not a traditional scene, which most picture books are, rather a suggestion of the scene. I personally like this, but I'd love to hear from you all and see if I am on the right track with this style. Leave me a comment, if you care to, good or bad comments are welcome.

IF - tales and legends

I couldn't believe my luck this morning when I saw the theme for the week over at Illustration Friday - Tales and Legends. I just completed this Little Red Riding Hood illo the night before and was going to post it on my blog today, along with one of my earliest drawings ever! My Mom sent an old scrapbook of mine from when I was a kid in our box of Christmas presents this year and I had drawn a series of Little Red Riding Hood pictures in the scrapbook. I bet she wasn't too pleased at the time! They sure are fun to look at now. Look how far I've come! Check out that hand! And why is the wolf green?
I had a great time doing the current illo and I think it will be a great addition to my portfolio. Since I have a whole week to do another for the theme, I think I just might!

IF - plain

Plain fun with plain old paper.

My entry for IF this week. Remember making newspaper hats and paper airplanes? Oh, so much fun can be had with paper. I still love paper and have great fun making stuff with it. Must have been all that early crafting I did as a kid. Do kids even do stuff like that anymore? I hope in this digital world kids don't lose out on the simple fun of creating things like paper hats.

no stank you

My daughter Nikki was recently involved in an ad campaign for no stank you, an anti-smoking group here in WA and they launched the recent photos on their website last week. I thought her photo was quite awesome, but of course, I am totally biased! What's really cool about this photo is that she wasn't in a graffiti covered walkway, she was at school for the photo shoot and she wasn't even wearing that shirt at the time. Oh, the wonders of Photoshop! The folks at no stank you are doing a fabulous job at making the idea of not smoking cool to kids. The t-shirt designs are super cool and they give a lot of them away for free at schools. Kudos to no stank you for making not smoking a cool thing!

IF - stitch

"Tom the cat had to endure the snickers and stares from the other cats after he lost his tail in an alley fight and had to stitch a new fabric one in it's place."

My entry for Illustration Friday this week. Poor Tom! He doesn't know what to think of his new tail!

living in color

I had a request to post some photos of my latest painting project. House painting, that is! Here are a couple of snapshots of my newly painted living and dining room. I'm quite happy with the results, if I do say so myself! Now, I just need to convince my husband to hire someone to paint all the white trim. I do not want to have to do that!

IF - 100%

Quote from Dr. Suess, Horton Hatches the Egg, 1940

My entry for Illustration Friday's theme of 100%, with a little help from Dr. Suess. The quote was so perfect for the theme, I had to use it! I've been super busy painting my living room and dining room for the past 4 days, so this was a good distraction. I always think it will be fun to paint and it is (at first), it's the prep and clean up that make it not so fun. Especially when it drags on for more than a day or two and I got a sore neck from it. Urg! But, I'm happy with the results...blue-green for the living room and berry for the dining room. So yummy! I love living with color on the walls.

IF - soar

Happy New Year everyone! Here's my piece for Illustration Friday this week with the theme of 'soar'. Did you see the cat? It's kind of like one of those hidden pictures, if you don't look close you'll miss him! I worked off of my sketch again this time, then colored it in Photoshop. I think I'll go back later and work on this some more for a portfolio piece. There's a lot of detail that could be done, when I have a bit more time. Yay for 2008! It's going to be a great year!
